THE CLASS OF 2013

Class of 2013 in communication MOI University.
THE CLASS OF 2013
Its December, a month where many university in Kenya organizes graduation ceremonies that took many months of preparation. At least the last bunch of graduates to be conferred the power to read. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2013 for navigating through a four-year course. It was not a mean fete. However, the excitement will be short lived, as tarmacking takes its course.
Many will look for a job ‘in their field’- it’s expected, a natural occurrence for any ‘sane’ graduate. Tough economic times and today’s corporate world, getting a job depends on whom one knows and to some extent luck. A fixed mind in job hunt leads to frustration frustration and more frustration. The sole purpose of a university degree is generally for empowerment especially to the third world graduates. The world is full of many fields, finding what you are good at, and keep better and better at it is the best option.
The tragedy with many graduates is harboring high expectations. This tends to breed disappointment and disillusionment progressively. Getting a good job after campus and an impressive salary is the dream of every graduate by the mere fact they are ‘learned friends’. That’s the societal unwritten rule  that dictates attending university would land one a good job. Veracity on the ground is to accept the thin line between fantasy and reality. Life does not always follow a script.
Many graduates dictate their failure with the success of their classmates back at campus. Some are on the competing mode and that is where the problem starts. Life is not a competition everyone has a destiny. Comparison is the death of contentment. God has a plan for everyone. Don’t be intimidated by societal norms, peer pressure or pressure from any one. Be yourself in shaping your destiny.
The 21st century is churning out more graduates than employment opportunities bearing the commercialization of education. The quality of it too has been compromised. Networking serves a best dose of job hunting without much hustle. Open your mind to all sorts of job opportunities. Take the available positions without being choosy. Build relationship with the higher ups in many professional, they will provide just that connection in the course of structuring a career. Remember to be humble if successful. Be good to those around you. The purpose of education is to make the world a better place. Strive to achieve this.
Meanwhile persevere, be patient and stay positive. God’s time is the best
